This is my "Sin" themed mix that I sent to mandalaya. This is her response...


And now I must report on derhay's supercool Spring Break 1899: Girls Gone Ingalls Wilder mix (ETA: which I see ChrissySissyStar also got as an orphan mix - now you won't have to post the tracklist, CSS :) ). I've bolded the early favorites, although I have a feeling that several more will grow on me. Most of the songs are delightfully and appropriately old-timey, with some fun exceptions.

1. She and Him - Magic Trick - an excellent song to sway to
2. Kiss - Getaway - rockin' the anachronism! The postcard of Kiss in concert was an awesome touch
3. The Denver Gentlemen - Holiday
4. Kristin Hersh - Fly Around My Blue Eyed Girl
5. Shearwater - Red Sea, Black Sea - funny how just a banjo can make an otherwise modern song sound traditional.
6. Nashville Dulcimers - Keep On the Sunny Side - such a happy instrumental version of this song, almost a bold
7. Thee Headcoat Sect - Cowboys Are Square - Garage Bands for Native Americans! This resonates at the moment because my Dutch housemate is currently in Arizona meeting up with her Lakota fresh-out-of-prison penpal and possible true love. This song makes me think of her and wish her luck.

12. Tom Waits - You Can Never Hold Back Spring - a good song and a lovely sentiment

14. Pride Tiger - The Lucky Ones - this makes me think of another upbeat song from the late 70s or early 80s, but I can't remember the name of it. Anyway, I like this AND it's got sentimental overtones
15. The Pogues - Streams of Whiskey - gotta love the Pogues
16. The Rolling Stones - Dead Flowers
17. Blood Feathers - Sea Legs - I like the whistling
18. Hem - The Beautiful Sea
19. The Black Keys - Psychotic Girl - funky yet old-timey! the power of the banjo again!
20. Van Halen - Could This Be Magic? - I had no idea Van Halen did acoustic classic blues, I like it for both the cachet of rockers doing blues and the music itself
21. The Vibrators - Whips and Furs
22. Adam and the Ants - Los Rancheros - not my favorite Adam/Ants song, but I still had to bold it. It also fits the theme very nicely.
23. Lez Zeppelin - Winter Sun - this will probably become a bold
24. Britta Phillips - I Am a Child
25. DeVotchKa - I Cried Like a Silly Boy
26. Murder By Death - Spring Break 1899

Steve Martin once made a joke that Nixon should have learned to play the banjo, and everyone would have forgiven him, because it's impossible to be sad while listening to banjo - this mix is a testament to that truth.

The 10th Circle of Hell – Virgil’s Mix to Dante
Discovered in a pile of ruins at a European dig site, Time-Life’s “Ancient Mix Tapes, Vol. 455: The 1300’s” is proud to present this mix, to Dante from Virgil, commemorating their momentous trip down to hell, as chronicled in Dante’s Divine Comedy: Inferno. I loved the letters that accompanied the mixes. The songs all serve the narrative well and favorites are noted.
