April 2008

For my mix to BlueJayWay, I tried my hand at spray painting stencils. I made a stencil of Jon Voight (below), with his name stenciled on it too. This was the image. I tried mixing things up with the packaging too, but all of this innovation cut my time considerably, and I have only been only sending only one mix per round. Here is the mix at mixtapecollective.org
I regret no scanning the final package, when I had finished it, but I wanted so much to send it on its merry way.

The CD has made its way from the car into the house! The mix is named after noted former car owner Jon Voight, and features neat stenciled cover art that rivals Ballroom Pink's great work. One problem -- the folded-up track listing is difficult to look at when one is listening to the CD while driving.

Frente! --- Open Your Heart and Let the Sunshine In
22-20's -- Devil in Me
Bauhaus -- Lagartija Nick
16 Horsepower -- Blessed Persistence
The Damned -- Ignite
Grant-Lee Phillips -- City of Refuge
Wanda Jackson -- Mean, Mean Man
Iggy Pop -- Some Weird Sin
Jarvis Cocker -- Fat Children
Shriekback -- Nemesis
Draco and the Malfoys -- 99 Death Eaters (I suppose I'd like this more if I had read a Harry Potter book or seen more than a few minutes here and there of the movies. They're no Weird Al, that's for sure.)
LaVice and Company - Thoughs Were the Days (Not an All in the Family cover, sadly)
The New Mastersounds -- Idle Time (Lack of Afro Remix)
Slim Cessna's Auto Club -- Last Song About Satan
The Dirtbombs -- No Expectations
Faultline, Brian Molko and Francoise Hardy -- Requiem for a Jerk
Neko Case -- Hold On, Hold On (The only song I already had)
Richard Thompson -- Dad's Gonna Kill Me
Murder By Death -- Rum Brave
Bobby Johnston -- The Beach
Toy Dolls -- The Devil Went Down to Scunthorpe (Dude, don't try to overcompensate for the fact that you're not cool enough to have a fiddle player in your band.)
Betty Wright -- Shoorah Shoorah

Sadly the last 2 songs didn't work! My CD player went crazy a second or so and I had to skip to the next disc in the changer. So for me, there's no:

Soundgarden -- One Minute of Silence
Man Man -- Fishstick Gumbo

which is too bad. But it's still a great mix! Thanks! (you didn't miss much, honestly)

My

April 2008 Mix by Adieu “a collection of new music, and some tracks I found while ripping old CDs to my computer. Hope you find a couple of gems!” Consider the mix cooper black bolded. Green text = gems.

1. Aimee Mann - "I Should Have Known" I have a picture of Aimee and hubby, Michael Penn, on my wall in front of me here at work., reenacting Dylan’s The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan album cover. Classic.
2. Matt Costa – "Cigarette Eyes"
3. T. Rex - "Jeepster" bless
4. Yma Sumac - "Gopher Mambo" I'd only heard an Electro Lounge version of this, prior to this mix. Very fun song.
5. The Pipettes - "Sex" I’ve enjoyed every song I’ve heard from them from mixes.
6. Jr. Parker - "Next Time You See Me"
7. She and Him "This is Not a Test" I'm so pleased with Volume One. Great song
8. Nicole Atkins – "Party's Over"
9. Seal – "Waiting for You" His blip was off my radar after Human Beings, I’m impressed with this track. ty
10. The Wolfgang Press - "A Girl Like You" Very cool.
11. The Cardigans - "Drip Drop Teardrop" I didn't even know they'd released an album in 2005. I'll have to check Super Extra Gravity out. ty
12. Mansun - "Six" Does Mansun have other good songs besides this one?
13. SF Seals - "Still?"
14. Sarah Slean - "Shadowland"
15. Michael J. Sheehy – "No One Recognized Him" More! More Please!
16. Feist - "When I Was a Young Girl"
17. Hawksley Workman - "What Would You Say to Me, Lord?" Uh, little known fact, he’s exactly two weeks older than me. Thank you, Cliff. Dug this.
18. Final Fantasy and Ed Droste "Possibly Maybe"
