February 2008

I had recently finished The Time Traveler's Wife and prepared this mix, that I sent to knobbygirl...

I received an awesome laidback mix from derhay. It's a nostalgia mix based on the book "The Time Traveler's Wife" - which I had never even heard of, but I am definitely interested in picking it up now. The packaging is hands down the best I've ever gotten on a FTOTZ Mix - it's got a cover sleeve and a beautifully printed booklet.

1. John Murphy - The End
2. Blondie - Pretty Baby
3. Moby Grape - Naked, If I Want To
4. Talking Heads - This Must Be the Place (Naive Meoldy)
5. R.E.M. - Disappear
6. Pulp - The Trees
7. Grant-Lee Phillips - Age of Consent
8. The Magnetic Fields - The Night You Can't Remember
9. Violent Femmes - Gone Daddy Gone

10. Matt Pond PA - Snow Day
11. Penetration - Nostalgia
12. Pony Up! - The Truth About Cats and Dogs (Is That They Die)
13. X - Poor Girl

14. Eartha Kitt - Somebody Bad Stole de Wedding Bell
15. Morrissey - In the Future When All's Well
16. Wreckless Eric - Reconnnez Cherie
17. The Troggs - Love is All Around

18. Mental as Anything - If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too?
19. Something for Kate - Stunt Show
20. Suede - Oceans
21. The Pogues - If I Should Fall from Grace With God
22. The Chameleons - Tears
23. Patty Griffin - Goodbye

Thanks, derhay - you obviously spent a lot of time on it!

This was my "Nostalgia" themed mix from ihavecooties...

This song could have been called What Homework?: When MTV Was All I Knew

Hearing these songs took me back and I panicked when I couldn't remember my locker combination. Great mix. Songs I wouldn't seek out are given relevance, some weight even, by simply being tracked together with other terrific gems.

[mix bold]
1. Joan Jett and the BlackHearts "I Hate Myself for Loving You" Love Joan. I listened to a lot of The Runaways so I'd have more to talk about for imaginary conversations I wanted to have with Juno.
2. Mötley Crǖe "Dr. Feelgood" Great driving through
Wyoming music.
3. Salt-N-Pepa "Push It" I always felt like the DJs were putting one over on the school chaperones when they always played this song at dances.
4. Sea+Si Music Factory "Gonna Make You Sweat" MUSIC IS MY LIFE! For me too, but why is she yelling?
5. Poison "Your Mama Don't Dance" Some have Second Life, some have VH1.
6. Mad Donna "Like A Prayer"
black bra undulation
7. Chicago "Look Away" I don't want you to see me this way. Look derhay, baby, look derhay.
8. Jackyl Jackson "Rhythm Nation" I still have my cassette single of this. Did anyone else try and find cool ways to upgrade all black baseball caps after seeing the vid? Only me? Ok.
9. Def and Balding Leppard "Pour Some Sugar On Me" David Debauchery of seX-Files
10. New Kids "You Got It (The Right Stuff)" One of the very few bands to perform at BYU's
Marriott Center. I didn't attend. I did discover that a lot (most?) of the NKotB bed sheets ended up in Cabo Verde, West Africa. Everyone in Cabo has family in Boston, so it wasn't a huge surprise to see so many New Kids shirts on little kids and old ladies.
11.
"Fly To The Angels" Every mix my good friend and locker partner of four years ever made had a Slaughter track on it. Wow. I needed to hear this again, ty.
12. Robert Van Winkle "Ice Ice Baby" I'd bet good money that a friend of mine still knows all of the lyrics to this one. TGFVH1.
13. Bon Jovi "Lay Your Hands on Me" Bossy isn't he? The alter o' John Francis Bongiovi, Jr.
14. Paulie Shore Abdul "Opposites Attract"
Damn you. Thank you.
15. Stubbly "Faith" dy. ty. dy.
16. Tiffany "Radio Romance" She performed on campus during my last year in college. That seemed weird to me. I didn't go. Still don't know if she sung "New Year's Day", or not.
17. "
Kokomo" Ok, I did see this performed by two of the Boys Beach, at the above mentioned Marriott Center. (M. Love and what's-his-name.)
18. Chris Gaines "Friends in Low Places" Another any dance staple. What a song.

I also received a handmade friendship bracelet and wonderful details on the history/meaningfulness of some songs. Thank you for your nostalgia mix.
